Melissa Rivers has just filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the doctors entrusted to provide medical care to her mother - Joan Rivers. According to reports, the physicians snapped "selfies" with the comedian and performed unauthorized medical procedures. In the meantime, Ms. Rivers' vital signs were deteriorating and the doctors treating her failed to take action. The lawsuit alleges that rather than provide Rivers the medical attention she deserved, the doctors were careless and negligent. The wrongful death claim further asserts that as a result of this incompetence, Rivers slipped into a coma and subsequently died.
As with many victims of medical malpractice and their families, deciding to file a medical malpractice lawsuit was difficult. However, in a statement Melissa noted "What ultimately guided me was my unwavering belief that no family should ever have to go through what my mother ... and I have been through ...The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible."
According to CBS news, an initial investigation into the matter found that the clinic made numerous errors, including the failure to obtain informed consent for all procedures, failing to properly document her medication records, and taking unauthorized selfies.
