San Francisco news reports that one man has died in a fatal construction
accident. The incident occurred at the Moscone Center in downtown San
Francisco. The worker had been operating a cherry picker inside an underground
ramp, and was standing on the equipment when he collided with the ceiling.
Whenever a construction accident occurs, its important to begin an investigation
into all of the factors that may have caused or contributed to an incident.
While the majority of workplace accidents are covered by California worker’s
compensation laws, in some instances, it may be possible to bring a civil
action for damages. This may be the case where a construction company
is negligent in allowing unreasonably dangerous or hazardous conditions
to exist on their property or where a third party’s negligence leads
to any accident – such as by providing defective equipment or machinery
that leads to an accident.
The recent work place accident will be investigated by the California Division
of Occupational Safety and Health (CalOsha) as well as the police.
