The California Department of Public Health has levied fines against four
local hospitals as the result of
medical negligence. According to news reports, the $275,000 in penalties were issued as the
result of "noncompliance with policies and errors that could have
result in serious injuries or
death for their patients."
If you have been harmed as the result of care you received at a hospital,
it is critical to speak to a
San Francisco medical malpractice law firm right away to begin an investigation and determine your next steps.
The hospital errors included:
Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center: Allegedly forgetting a sponge inside a patient during an emergency C-section.
San Francisco's Chinese Hospital: Failing to follow the proper procedures related to feeding tube insertion.
Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Centers: Not following the proper procedures related to its cardiac paging system.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center: Failing to properly provide ongoing patient assessment.
An additional 9 other California hospital were issued fines.
Medical malpractice actions arise when a hospital, doctor or other medical
staff fail to follow the appropriate standard of care when treating a
patient. When these actions – or inaction – harm the patient,
they may be able to bring a medical malpractice lawsuit against the care
provider to recover compensation.
In these instances it is unknown whether lawsuits were filed. Although
it may not always be clear if you have a medical malpractice case, it
is important to consult with a knowledgeable San Francisco medical malpractice
attorney who can evaluation your case and provide valuable insight.
