The San Francisco Supervisors are reviewing a multi-million settlement
concerning a motorcyclist who sustained serious personal injuries after
being struck by a fire struck. According to reports, the fire truck was
speeding on its way with its lights and siren on. The fire truck proceeded
through the intersection, striking the motorcyclist and sending him across
Howard Street and into a fire hydrant. The man suffered catastrophic injuries,
requiring years of treatment and medical expenses. Sources also report
that the driver of the fire truck immediately went into a pub following
the accident to drink pitchers of water, ostensibly to lower his blood
alcohol level, which subsequently tested above the legal limit.
While the breathalyzer tests were thrown out in the civil lawsuit, criminal
DUI charges are still pending.
