San Francisco news reports that a dump truck accident killed one person
and several others suffered serious personal injuries. The accident occurred
when the dump truck collided with a San Francisco Municipal Transportation
Agency bus. Initial indications reveal that the truck overturned, pinning
the driver underneath. The circumstances remain under investigation.
Commercial vehicles, including dump trucks, may cause serious personal
injuries to the driver and others involved when accidents occur. Due to
their sheer size, when accidents occur there is a high likelihood of injury.
Once a dump trunk starts to wobble and loses balance, it may be very difficult
to gain control of the vehicle. Further, if a dump truck is transporting
materials, additional dangers exists if the materials spill onto the roadway.
Dump truck drivers are required to maintain certain levels of expertise
to operate these vehicles. Many times, the drivers and other commercial
drivers are at-fault when accidents occur. However, other factors may
be to blame for the incident. For example, the trucking company that owns
the vehicles must ensure the safety of the trucks and provide proper maintenance.
This includes ensuring that the tires and brakes are in good working order.
