Byron Truck Accident Under Investigation

A recent Byron area semi-truck accident reinforces just how dangerous collisions with big-rigs can be. Even where no fault exists on the part of the truck driver, the massive size and weight of big rigs and tractor-trailers makes them exceptionally dangerous to all others who share the highways or streets. In fact, nearly 450,000 accidents involving trucks occur each year, resulting in numerous injuries and over 5,000 deaths a year.

This past week, a child and young woman were killed in a head-on collision between an 18-wheel semi truck and a sedan. According to reports the truck accident occurred after the driver of an Oldsmobile sedan swerved as if she had lost control of the vehicle. The car then crashed head-on into the big rig.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to a nearby hospital, and was pronounced dead as the result of blunt force trauma. A young boy who was a passenger in the vehicle also died at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured. He was not speeding at the time of the crash. Just why the driver of the Oldsmobile swerved or whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the car accident is unknown.
