Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority Worker Killed On Site

San Francisco news reports that a maintenance employee has died as the result of a workplace accident at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority facility. The worker was struck by a bus while on duty and subsequently passed away from his injuries. The accident remains under investigation. The bus was driven by another VTA employee, who has been placed on leave pursuant to agency policy.

In a statement issued by VTA, the general manager notes, "I am deeply sorry for the loss of our employee … it is of the utmost importance to thoroughly understand the facts surrounding this incident as the safety of our employees and customers is our top priority. Our thoughts and prayers are with [the employee's family], his colleagues and all who have been affected by this tragic incident."

If you have been injured or have lost a loved one in a workplace accident, it's a good idea to consult with an experienced San Francisco workplace accident attorney right away. In many situations, it may be possible to obtain compensation to cover medical expenses or other damages.

Generally, those injured at work or the surviving family members may recover monies through California worker's compensation provisions. Worker's compensation can be beneficial since it provides for recovery regardless of fault. However, the amounts recovered are often lower than in a civil suit. Although not as common, in certain situations it may be possible to file a civil lawsuit where an employee is injured on the job - generally this involves some form of third party liability. Ensuring you receive the money you or your family deserves after an injury at work requires working with a skilled San Francisco personal injury lawyer who can determine the best approach for you.
