Commuter Rail Accident Under Investigation

Commuter Rail Accident Under Investigation

This week's horrific commuter train accident remains under investigation. According to ABC News, authorities are still trying to determine why a pick-up truck driver accidentally turned onto the railroad track, causing a commuter train to derail in Oxnard, California. The truck driver took a right turn onto the tracks, about 55 feet before the road he meant to enter. One investigator is questioning whether the track marking were confusing in the dark, and the driver may have mistook them for an intersection.

Four people suffered serious personal injuries in this truck/train accident, and another 26 suffered minor personal injuries.

This is not the first incident at these same tracks. Federal records show that in 2010, a driver accidentally turned onto the tracks, was struck by a Metrolink train and injured. That was one of six accidents in the last seven years at the crossing, including one that killed two people in a car last year.
