Because cystic fibrosis is inherited, blood and/or saliva tests should show if either parent carries the cystic fibrosis gene.
- Spina Bifida - This condition literally means "split spine." There are three major types of spina bifida, some more serious than others. Ultrasounds, AFP tests and amniotic fluid tests should be sufficient in most cases to detect if a fetus is affected by this condition.
Other commonly misdiagnosed genetic disorders are sickle cell disease, fragile X syndrome, and thalassemia.
